Historial Breve
Latinas Unidas fue fundada en marzo de 2001. Es una organización sin fines de lucros y exenta de impuestos. Opera como puente bilingüe y multicultural entre el cliente hispano / latino y las agencias del Condado de Sheboygan que cubre las necesidades inmediatas. Latinas Unidas sirve a aproximadamente 500 participantes anual. Es la única organización de esta clase en el área. Su meta principal es buscar, sin descanso, el desarrollo y la entrega de servicios compresivos que mejoran la calidad de vida de los miembros en la comunidad y de otras comunidades cercanas.

Latinas Unidas es dirigida por una junta directiva multidisciplinaria de doce miembros que representa tanto los sectores públicos como los privados. El personal es bilingüe y reside en el área. Latinas Unidas tiene más de 20 voluntarios que incluye a miembros de la junta directiva, personal, y miembros de comunidad que son los pilares de la organización.
Objetivos Principales
Nos esforzamos por realizar cinco objetivos principales, que son:
a) Clases de Inglés como Segunda Lengua (ESL)
b) Clases de GED/HSED en español y clases de Ciudadanía
c) Destrezas Básicas de Computadoras
d) Servicios de Traducción/Interpretación
e) Servicios Caritativos.

Metas Generales
Las metas primarias de Latinas Unidas responden a las necesidades más básicas del cliente hispano/latino y también sirven de base al cliente, como:
• Proporcionar entrenamiento, educación, información, e investigación en cuanto a la presencia, contribuciones y necesidades críticas de la población Hispana.
• Crear y mantener un sentido de independencia y funcionalidad proveyendo un sistema de apoyo competente cultural y lingüístico que asegure acceso a recursos disponibles.
• Proveer servicios de traducción e interpretación con agencias comunitarias apropiadas que cubren áreas de servicios comprensivos para la comunidad entera; incluso la orientación bilingüe a hispanos que ayuda en el crecimiento y en el enriquecimiento cultural de la comunidad hispana del Condado de Sheboygan.
• Ofrecer una variedad consistente y amplia de servicios directos a hispanos vulnerables, en la mayor parte de casos monolingües (español), que viven en Sheboygan, WI, a fin de ayudarles a vencer barreras de lingüísticas, económicas, educativas y las de salud.

Como se Benefician
Latinas Unidas ha encontrado que los clientes hispanos no utilizan la asistencia social dominante disponible a ellos por instituciones no-hispanas. Se conlleva mucho tiempo ayudarles a vencer sus tendencias del recibir asistencia de otras fuentes, sobre todo cuando esa ayuda está sólo disponible en extraños que hablan una lengua diferente. Latinas Unidas capacita a los clientes hispanos a vencer barreras; al acceso de recursos que cubren sus necesidades básicas; y hacerse ciudadanos más autosuficientes y productivos.
Resultado/Impacto
Nuestro esfuerzo es unir la comunidad Hispana con las agencias locales promoviendo y proporcionando programas educativos bilingües; servicios caritativos; e información de recursos comunitarios, actividades y acontecimientos disponibles a familias hispanas en el área de Sheboygan. Nuestras clases y servicios son ofrecidos por personal bilingüe profesional en un ambiente bilingüe y culturalmente sensible.

Brief History of Latinas Unidas of Wisconsin, Inc.
Latinas Unidas of Wisconsin, Inc. was founded in March of 2001. It is a non-profit and tax-exempt organization. It specializes in providing a bilingual, multicultural bridge between the Hispanic/Latino client and the agencies in Sheboygan County that meets immediate needs.
Latinas Unidas serves approximately 500 participants yearly. It is the only Latino organization of its kind in the area. Its main goal is to relentlessly pursue the development and delivery of comprehensive services to improve the quality of life of community members and other surrounding communities.

Board | Staff | Volunteers
Latinas Unidas is lead by a multidisciplinary twelve-member board of directors who represent both the private and public sectors. The staff is bilingual and resides in the immediate area. Latinas Unidas has over 20 volunteers that include board members, staff, and community members that are the pillars of the organization.

General Goals
The prime goals of Latinas Unidas respond to the most basic needs of the Hispanic/Latino client, and also serve as a base to the client, such as:
• To provide training, education, information, and fact-finding regarding the presence, contributions and critical needs of the Hispanic population.
• To foster and to maintain a sense of independence and functionality by providing a cultural and linguistic competent support system ensuring access to available resources.
• To provide translation and interpretation services to appropriate community agencies covering comprehensive service areas for the entire community; including bilingual counseling to Hispanics that aids in the growth and cultural enrichment of the Hispanic community in the Sheboygan County.
• To provide a consistent, wide range of direct services to vulnerable Hispanics, in most cases monolingual (Spanish), living in Sheboygan, WI, in order to help them overcome linguistic, economic, educational and health-related barriers.
How They Benefit
Latinas Unidas has found that the Hispanic/Latino clients underutilized mainstream social services available to them through non-Latino institutions. A lot of time is spent with them to help them overcome their biases against receiving assistance from outside sources, especially when that help is only available from strangers who speak a different language. Latinas Unidas enables the Hispanic clients to overcome barriers; to get access to resources that meet their basic needs; and to become more self-sufficient, productive citizens.
Outcome/Impact
Our effort is to link the Latino/Hispanic community to the local agencies by promoting and providing bilingual educational programs; charitable services; and information on community resources, activities and events available to Hispanic families in the Sheboygan area. Our classes and services are offered by professional bilingual staff and in a bilingual and culturally sensitive environment.
